DFA Philippines E-Passport Application | DFA Passport Tracking System Online

We filipinos love to travel even if its out of town or out of the country. Low airfare promos from airlines makes your itchy feet to travel more than before. You need a passport if your planning for an out of the country trip. If you don’t have a passport or have an expired one then this question will pop out on your mind, “What is the easiest way to apply for a new passport?”
For first timer or new applicant like me, my first thought is to go to a travel agency so they can help me on processing my application. It’s less hassle as they say than processing it by your own. You don’t have to wait for too long and the agency will also offer you a ride which is included in their passport application package. However, the rate or price from a travel agency is much higher than by doing it by yourself. My frugal side kicks in and decided to process it by myself. It’s also better for me to know the step by step process of my own documents so I can share this information to my friends and to my readers. Actually the only difference from processing it with the help of a travel agency is the price or the money you’ll spend. Agencies will earn from you that’s why they say your application is at ease with them. But the truth is the hassle is still there because you have to be there personally and have to fall in line and have to wait for a couple of hours until it’s done.
I live in Batangas so the first thing I did was, I visited the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) official website and searched for the nearest DFA Regional Office in my location. There are two DFA Regional Offices which are near in my location, it’s located in Lucena and in Batangas City. I called the two offices and asked questions like what are the requirements, how much it will cost and how many days to claim my passport. After gathering all the information I need and prior from suggestions of my friends I went to Lucena. DFA Lucena and DFA Batangas serves 200 applicants every Monday to Friday. The first 100 in the morning and the remaining 100 after their lunch break. My tip is you must be there before 7am. They give number stubs to applicants until they reach 200. DFA Regional Offices allows walk in application Unlike in DFA Manila where you can only set your appointment online.
Second thing I did was completed the requirements. What are the requirements for new passport? I brought my birth certificate issued by NSO, 2 valid ID’s with 2 photocopies of front and back (I brought my driver’s license and my employee ID). You need this for proof of identity. You can also use your school ID if your a student or your SSS ID if your an employee as long the ID has your full name, date and place of birth and citizenship. For the passport fees, I chose Expedite Processing or Rush that cost me P1200 and I think P120 or P150 shipping fee from LBC so they will deliver it at my door step after 15 working days. P950 fee for Regular Processing where you can claim it to their office after 25 working days.
In my case, my passport was delayed for almost a month so what I did was I followed it up by calling their hotline numbers and used their new DFA Passport Tracking System Online. Using the tracking system is easy, just visit DFA’s website then click the Consular Services tab then Passport Information then Passport Tracking System. Provide all the information needed in the form then they will reply through SMS. By the way DFA have Mobile Passport Services. View the image below for November – December 2011 schedule.
